Finally arriving at the peaceful waters of the Xochimilco Canals, we'll enjoy a relaxing trip on a traditional punt or pre-Hispanic boat. The zone of Xochimilco, 28 km to the south, is the only remaining reminder of the lacustrine landscape of the Aztec capital, where the conquistadores destroyed the monuments and drained the canals. On the edge of the residual lake of Xochimilco (the southern arm of the great dried-up lake of Texcoco where the Aztecs had settled on a group of islets linked to solid ground by footbridges), and in the midst of a network of small canals, are still some chinampas, the floating gardens that the Spanish so admired. Just north of Mexico City are the mysterious Teotihuacán Pyramids, built beginning around 300 BC as the centerpiece of an enormous city, often compared to ancient Rome. They were inexplicably abandoned centuries before the arrival of the Aztecs, who called the ancient architectural marvel the "Birthplace ofthe Gods."

Neither they, nor modern archaeologists, have been able to unravel the secrets of thesemassive ruins, presided over by the third-largest pyramid in the world. Constructed according to precise astronomical measurements, and filled with the bodies of sacrificial victims, it was perhaps a place where bloody rituals were performed to keep the end of the world at bay. But no one really knows.

Thus, this mystic spot is one of the most enigmatic, as well as impressive, archaeological sites in North America. Its vast stone expanse of humbling temples are still covered with rich and detailed stone statues, even faded paintings.

Lunch is included.

TOUR: BLUE HOUSE, DIEGO RIVERA AND FRIDA KAHLO'S HOUSE

DATE: OCTOBER 05
TIME: 09:00 – 14:00
TOUR PRICE: $65

The Blue House is the –almost mythical– place where the clock of Frida's life began and where it also stopped. Today it signifies not only the dwelling where the artist lived her brief, painful and tempestuous life, but also a sanctuary in which art flows from nature itself, as well as from the pictorial expression –in many ways alive– of the woman who dwelt in it. The character, the artist, the human being that Frida was, captured in such a way a unique artistic sentiment that, though not easy to explain and articulate, unleashed an interest which in turn founded the culture and mystique of its fascination. A seduction that attracts thousands of people today from diverse parts of the world to this house.
