On behalf of the International Actuarial Association’s (IAA) Banking Task Force, the Actuarial Society of South Africa’s (ASSA) Banking Committee and the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries’ (IFoA) Banking Member Interest Group, you are invited to participate in the upcoming webinar entitled Actuaries in Banking: The South African Experience.

Panelists:
Simon Greenberg
Simon is the head of the independent model validations unit at one of Africa’s biggest banks (ABSA). Simon is a qualified actuary and has a vast amount of experience in banking. His professional career spans from FNB (a member of the FirstRand group) to Nedbank. Within ABSA, Simon plays a pivotal role in the group risk function of the bank. Simon holds a master’s degree in mathematical statistics.
Neha Junglee
Neha is a manager at Deloitte South Africa and is part of Financial Services Advisory team. She is a risk actuary with experience in banking and insurance markets. Neha has mostly been involved in IFRS 9 credit risk model validation/audit and in independent ORSA reviews and focuses on risk management propositions.
Matthew Walker
Matthew is a partner at Ernst Young (EY) responsible for the Quantitative Advisory Service practise in South Africa. He is a banking actuary with experience in banking and capital markets, finance as well as analytics and big data. Matthew’s team focuses (amongst other things) on supporting clients with modelling and managing market and credit risk. QAS also has experience in data science as well as in machine learning.

Michael T. Tichareva
Michael is a Fellow of the Actuarial Society of South Africa who also holds a BCom (Hons.) degree in Actuarial Science and an MBA. Michael leads a team of banking actuarial professionals in delivering banking consulting assignments that include IFRS 9 expected credit loss modelling. He also specialises in impact investing within agriculture, real estate and infrastructure. Michael currently leads at a global level in developing banking practice for actuaries and continues to present at various international platforms on the involvement of actuaries in banking. Michael is the Chairperson of the Banking Task Force of the International Actuarial Association and is a member of the Banking Committee of the Actuarial Society of South Africa.
