Information Security is important to actuaries and their clients. ISO 27001 is an international standard on how to manage information security, which was originally published jointly by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) in 2005 and then revised in 2013. It details requirements for establishing, implementing, maintaining, and continually improving an information security management system (ISMS) – the aim of which is to help organizations make the information assets they hold more secure. A European update of the standard was published in 2017. Organizations that meet the standard's requirements can choose to be certified by an accredited certification body following successful completion of an audit.

Scott Cameron, an Actuary with Spence and Partners, has been involved in the implementation of ISO27001 at his firm. Erel Korusoy, an independent third party assessor of information security since 2008, and Anna Pelc of Milliman, who has been involved in the implementation of ISO 27001
Speakers:
Scott Cameron
Scott is an Associate of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries and has over 20 years of experience in the UK pensions industry. He joined Spence & Partners in 2011 and has been Head of their Actuarial and Investment Function since 2014.
He is an actuary for a number of corporate clients and has also been integral to Spence & Partner’s work transitioning pension schemes to the Pension Protection Fund.
Scott is also Head of the Risk and Audit Team within Spence & Partners. This team has oversight of governance, risk management, and compliance activities, including maintaining various accreditations such as ISO 27001 and ISO 9001.
Erel Korusoy
Erel Korusoy has been working as an ISO consultant since 2006 and as a freelance third-party assessor since 2008. During this time Erel has assessed a broad range of organisations from global to micro-sized ones, in different sectors, including finance, against ISO 27001, ISO 9001, and ISO 14001.
Prior to this, Erel graduated with BSc (Hons) Computing Science and worked in different industry sectors including Finance, where he served as part of the Operations Board as an IT Director ensuring working practices aligned with requirements, including BS 7799 (an early version of ISO 27001).
Erel passionately believes ISO standards add value to all organisations that adopt them as an everyday working practice and helps organisations of all sizes implement standards pragmatically to improve their operational performance.
Anna Pelc
Anna Pelc is the Human Resources Manager for Milliman's London office. She is a member of ISO Working party, which has been a driving force in implementing ISO 27001 framework in the UK. Anna's responsibilities include regular ISO 27001 internal audits and staff training, and she is also the first point of contact for any Data Protection queries.
