Biography: Bozenna Hinton
President
Bozenna Hinton began her tenure as President of the International Actuarial Association on January 1, 2025.
As President, Bozenna also serves as Chair of the Executive Committee and of the Council, as well as being an Officer of the organization. Since starting her involvement with the IAA, she has been Chair of the Education Committee (2016-2021), Vice Chair of the Resources and Environment Working Group (2013-2014) and served on numerous other entities notably the Professionalism, Nominations, and the Strategic Planning Committees, as well as being Australia’s Council Delegate.
Bozenna is based in Sydney, Australia and graduated from Macquarie University with a Bachelor of Economics. She became a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia (FIAA) in 1994.
Bozenna began her career with Munich Reinsurance, working both in their Sydney and London offices, specialising in Life Insurance.
On returning to Australia, she joined Trowbridge Consulting where her work extended to advising electricity and gas retailers, generators and industry groups in the deregulating energy market. This included contract pricing, analysing and assessing risks, and developing risk management policies and procedures.
Since this time, she has undertaken other consulting and contracting roles, mainly in life insurance, though also some general insurance, superannuation and in other ‘wider’ areas. In 2014 she co-authored a paper on Total and Permanent Disability claims in the Australian market. She has also worked for two major Australian life companies, more recently moving into management roles.
Throughout her career Bozenna has been active with the Actuaries Institute Australia, including being elected President in 2010, with Vice President roles in 2008 and 2009. Other leadership roles in the Australian profession include Chair of the Board of Examiners (2005-2006), Chair of the Education Committee (2009), Chair of the Member Services and Educator Taskforce (2008), Chair of the Life Insurance Committee (2014-2016) and Chair of the International Committee (2018-2023). In 2020 she received the Actuaries Institute Volunteer of the Year Distinguished Service Award.
Bozenna has four children and enjoys running, cycling, reading, and travelling.
