Biography: Micheline Dionne
Immediate Past President
Micheline Dionne served as President of the International Actuarial Association in 2023. In 2024, she serves as an Officer of the IAA as Immediate Past President, Chair of the Strategic Planning Committee, member of the Executive Committee, and Vice-Chair of the Nominations Committee.
Prior to 2023, she was chair of the Climate Risk TF and of the Resource and Environment Forum. Since starting her involvement with the IAA, she has been co-vice-chair of the Insurance Accounting Committee (2012-2015), Delegate to the Life Section (2013-2017), Chair of the ISAP 4 TF (2013-2020), IAA delegate to the IFRS Advisory Council (2014-2019) and Member of the Executive Committee (2015-2018). She also served as delegate for the Canadian Institute of Actuaries on Council (2017-2021) and on the Strategic Planning Committee (2021).
Micheline was born in Bathurst, Canada and graduated in actuarial science from Laval University in Quebec City in 1977 and became Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries in 1982.
She started her career working for a local life insurance company and subsequently for a local consulting firm. In 1983 she was hired as Director of Life Insurance Pricing of the Standard Life Canadian operations and in 1987 joined Metropolitan Life Canadian operations with various assignment in Pricing, Corporate Actuarial and Investment to finally become their Appointed Actuary. When Metropolitan Life sold its Canadian Operations, she joined RGA Canada (Reinsurance Group of America) as Appointed Actuary and subsequently became Chief Actuary. She is retired since 2014.
During 2009-2010, Micheline served as president of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries and was a CIA Board member from 2006 to 2012. She was also a member of the CIA Actuarial Standard Board from 2006 to 2009. As a long-term volunteer for the CIA, she received the CIA President Award in 2015 for exemplary contribution.
Since retirement, Micheline has served on the board of directors of Assuris (protecting Canadian life insureds against insurers' insolvency) and in 2021 served as independent expert on a panel group reviewing the fairness of the state auto insurance scheme premiums.
Micheline and her spouse Louis reside in Longueuil, a city near Montreal and have two daughters. She enjoys cycling, cross-country skiing, puzzle solving and travelling to new places.
