Meeting with International Monetary Fund

A delegation from the International Actuarial Association (IAA) led by President Rob Brown held a private meeting with Christine Lagarde, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on Monday, March 31, 2014 in Washington D.C. In addition to introducing the IAA to the IMF as the worldwide association of professional actuarial associations, this meeting served as a high-level introduction to the actuarial profession in the global context and the important role it can play in the IMF’s pursuit of global financial stability.

Topics of particular interest included: microinsurance; systemic risk; professionalism and independence of the actuarial profession; and safeguarding the security of financial entities.

Discussions will continue towards identifying projects where the actuarial profession can bring the needed expertise and add value contributing to a sustainable global growth.
