IAA Granted Observer Status with the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development

version française

The International Actuarial Association (IAA) is pleased to announce that it has been granted observer status with the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).

Established in 1964, UNCTAD promotes the integration of developing countries into the world economy. It has evolved into an authoritative knowledge-based institution aiming to help shape current policy debates and thinking on development, with a particular focus on ensuring that domestic policies and international action are mutually supportive in bringing about sustainable development.

Observer status with UNCTAD is granted to non-governmental organizations that have an interest in the activities of the conference, and of its subsidiary bodies. Those with observer status are invited to attend public sessions of UNCTAD intergovernmental meetings and conferences where they can make oral statements on matters within the scope of their activities.

The IAA was represented at the 59th session of the UNCTAD Trade and Development Board held in Geneva, during September, where the programme included discussion of current trends and challenges in the world economy. The IAA is engaged in ongoing relationship-building with UNCTAD to identify areas of mutual interest for future joint collaboration, particularly those relating to the activities of the IAA Advice & Assistance Committee and its regional subcommittees.

To learn more about the work of the IAA in this area, please contact the IAA Secretariat, for the attention of the Chairperson of the Supranational Relations Subcommittee.

The International Actuarial Association (IAA) is the worldwide association of professional actuarial associations, with a number of special interest sections for individual actuaries. The IAA exists to encourage the development of a global profession, acknowledged as technically competent and professionally reliable, which will ensure that the public interest is served.
