version française

The International Actuarial Association (IAA) is delighted to announce that it has admitted The Actuarial Association of Uganda (TAAU) and the Society of Actuaries of Namibia (SAN), bringing its total number of Associate Members to twenty-eight.

The TAAU was founded in 2007 and comprises 80 actuaries and prospective actuaries. The association’s objectives include:

  • elevating the status and promoting the advancement and best interests of the actuarial profession in Uganda;
  • playing an active role in actuarial education and training;
  • developing and upholding the highest professional standards and guidance for its members in relation to the practice of the actuarial profession;
  • promoting knowledge and research in all matters relevant to actuarial science and its application in Uganda, East Africa and the rest of the World; and
  • establishing links with groups, societies, or associations in any part of the world with similar objectives to those of the TAAU.

The SAN was founded in 2010 and consists of 10 actuaries and prospective actuaries. The society’s objectives are:

  • to raise awareness of, encourage and support the growth of the actuarial profession in Namibia;
  • to protect public interest by promoting and upholding the highest standards of professional conduct and integrity of actuaries providing actuarial services in Namibia; and
  • to provide a platform through which the interests of the local actuarial profession can be represented locally and more actively foster relations with other actuarial organizations.

Associate membership of the IAA is normally the first step toward Full Member status. Admission as a Full Member association of the IAA follows a rigorous process that includes reviewing the education program and ensuring that the applicant association has a Code of Professional Conduct, a formal discipline process, and a formal process for the adoption of standards of practice, where applicable. The IAA Accreditation Committee reviews each of these documents to ensure compliance with IAA set requirements. The IAA Education Committee ensures that the association’s education program meets the criteria set out in the IAA Education Guidelines and Syllabus and that all the actuaries that will be recognized as attaining fully qualified status will be required to have successfully completed this program.

The International Actuarial Association (IAA) is the worldwide association of professional actuarial associations, with a number of special interest sections for individual actuaries. The IAA exists to encourage the development of a global profession, acknowledged as technically competent and professionally reliable, which will ensure that the public interest is served.
