version française

The International Actuarial Association (IAA) is delighted to announce that it has admitted the l'Institut National des Actuaires au Sénégal (Senegal INAS), bringing its total number of Associate Members to twenty-nine.

The INAS was founded in 2011 and comprises of 10 actuaries and prospective actuaries. The association’s objectives include:

  • to encourage and develop the study of mathematics as applied to the fields of finance, economics and social studies;
  • to promote a quality actuarial profession for public service, and to improve the visibility and reputation of the actuarial profession and its members in Senegal (mainly), and in francophone Africa and beyond;
  • to establish and control of the rules of ethics and professional standards such as those developed by its Technical Committees, which constitute standards of practice to ensure a high level of professionalism, expertise and qualification;
  • to participate in international exchanges to develop and structure the profession and, whenever possible, participate in national, African and international bodies;
  • to cooperate with actuarial associations of other countries in order to develop conditions for mutual recognition of skills and practice outside the country of origin, and to organize exchanges and scientific cooperation with these associations.

Associate membership of the IAA is normally the first step toward Full Member status. Admission as a Full Member association of the IAA follows a rigorous process that includes reviewing the education program and ensuring that the applicant association has a Code of Professional Conduct, a formal discipline process, and a formal process for the adoption of standards of practice, where applicable. The IAA Accreditation Committee reviews each of these documents to ensure compliance with IAA set requirements. The IAA Education Committee ensures that the association’s education program meets the criteria set out in the IAA Education Guidelines and Syllabus and that all the actuaries that will be recognized as attaining fully qualified status will be required to have successfully completed this program.
