A Joint Colloquium of three Sections of the International Actuarial Association (IAA)—the International Association of Consulting Actuaries (IACA), the Pension, Benefits and Social Security Section (PBSS) and the IAA Health Section (IAAHS)— will be held in Boston, Massachusetts from May 4th through May 7th, 2008 for actuaries from around the world.   This is the first time that three Sections have joined together to sponsor a colloquium.  We expect that over 300 delegates from more than 30 countries will participate in this challenging professional program covering a wide range of topics of concern to the member actuaries of these three sections.   While some of the topics will naturally be of more interest to members of a particular section, we expect that the colloquium will offer exciting opportunities for the cross fertilization of ideas among practicing actuaries from different disciplines and countries.

In order to enhance the experience of the attendees, most of whom will be traveling from overseas, and to keep the costs lower, we are seeking sponsorships for this event.  Sponsors’ names and logos will be displayed on the Joint Colloquium website, in advance publicity, on banners prominently displayed at the meeting, and in the program booklet.  In addition, sponsors will know that they have helped to make this prestigious international event a success.

The meeting will open on Monday May 5th with an address by the President of IAA followed by a round table discussion with the President and the chairpersons of the three sections.   Two distinguished invited speakers from outside the profession will open the proceedings on each of the following days.   In addition, during the three days of sessions, there will be panel discussions, seminars and papers presented by international actuaries and other thought leaders on such topics as the challenges of longevity, solvency and sustainability for pensions and social security, and catastrophic risks in the provision of health care. 

We are reaching out to you now so that you can include this sponsorship in your 2008 budget plans.   The available sponsorship opportunities are described in the attached document.

In addition, we are looking for an organization to donate a brief bag for each attendee and for other organizations to donate gifts to put in the bags (such as pens, flashlights, laser pointers, etc.).

We will accept indications of interest in the various levels of sponsorships on a first come, first served basis. Payments to the International Actuarial Association will be due by February 29, 2008.  Please let us know as soon as possible if your firm will support this Joint Colloquium with a sponsorship and the selected level.
